My sisters and I took our balikbayan aunt to TriNoma yesterday. We just went 'round and 'round the mall aimlessly, not really going anywhere in particular, and kind of got very confused. There were some places there that I kind of already fixed in my head as a landmark -- like the National Bookstore in the mall, which exits to Mindanao parking.
A friend suggested eating at Crustacia (is this the right spelling?), but as we had already eaten there previously, we ended up at my sister's (I suspect) favorite eating place, Fish n' Co. I love their fish n' chips (and that's saying a lot since I'm not really a fish person). I wonder how they get it so tender and juicy...
We also wandered around Landmark, with my aunt's shopping list as guide. She had noted down some things her friends over at the States (I'm assuming) had asked her to buy, and it was funny how Pinoy the list is as it described the product in kind of vague terms. To mention a few:
Pond's facial wash, with microbeads
Cream Silk, white.
Vicks Vaporub, large.
Which kind of resulted to some problems, as, for instance, in the case of Pond's. I did remember they used to have a product with microbeads but this had been phased out long ago. So we had to choose from a variety of facial washes -- age-defying, anti-bacterial, oil-control, whitening... and ended up not buying any.
Ditto for the Cream Silk. What kind of conditioner is it exactly that was needed? The variant may still exist but the packaging has changed as well. Now that I think of it, the person was probably looking for the anti-dandruff variant, only we didn't find any of it on display (hmm, maybe it died out due to Clear anti-dandruff shampoos and conditioners, also a Unilever brand).
And then there's the Vicks. I remember, from when I was very young, that there used to be a big, really big, Vicks plastic jar. The biggest Vicks we could find in Mercury Drugstore is now kind of small, like maybe a third of the size of the big one I'm referring to. I'm wondering if that's the "big" size that the person meant.
