Today I went grocery shopping to stock up on stuff before the Holy Week. I realized how much I CAN'T stock up.
The fresh food I buy usually spoil. So that, for instance, even if I want to have fruits at home all the time; I literally can't. Ditto for vegetables. I've even taken to buying half-loafs of bread, because the whole loaf spoils about halfway through the week (I eat about a three slices of bread a day, on the days I have breakfast, which isn't everyday). When I got home today, I had to throw out the following (mostly, but not all, from my ref):
- three mooncakes, left over from last year's Mooncake Festival
- boxes of chocolate, brownies, and cookies left over from Christmas, and some even earlier than that
- three-fourths of a large tikoy, left over from Chinese New Year
- one-third of a slice of chocolate mousse, left over from my grandma's 95th birthday, about two weeks ago
- tomatoes
- oranges
- vegetables
- one-fourth of my Nestle low-fat milk (it smelled funny), shared by me and my cat
- leftovers from last weekend's family dinner
The ideal way to go about things is maybe to do grocery shopping twice a week so my food stuff is fresh. I hate that though, because I don't have the TIME.
All these food going to waste makes me feel bad. Plus, I know I am not eating as healthy as I should. I am actually thinking of buying those vegetable juices I see downstairs at the Mini-Stop just to make sure I ingest green and yellow leafy veggies, even if it is in liquid form.
Anyway. Just thought I'd rant.

if you keep saying you don't have time then you won't find it ;) you need to eat well and healthy. fresh is always better. :)
i say the opposite -- i always have time for (insert whatever is desired here). and it works out somehow. right now i'm saying "i have time to make bento boxes". and you have a pretty good idea how murderous my skeds are now. LOL.
ganbatte ne!
Couple of ways to work around that problem. You could do the grocery delivery route, (I think some express groceries offer this service) or take turns in doing joint grocery shopping with family and friends. You can always ask your new found lost friend. I think he's a great grocery person for healthy stuff as you mentioned. :-)
I usually make a soup / casserole / something on the weekends and eat it for the week. Then, I buy some salad stuff as I need to. Pathetic? Oh yes. Shopping for the single gal is tricky! Like your blog!
