As a teaser -- the reviewer, Ms. Laura Miller, compares Bella to Buffy Summers (not unlike what I did below, but to strong women in general). She also gives tidbits about Ms. Meyer's background. I didn't know Meyer was a Mormon, but that explained some stuff, to me anyway.
Just to let you know, I've never read any of Ms. Miller's reviews before this, but I'm sure going to do so starting right now.
Her article got me worried about the girls who read Twilight. Well, my niece is not yet 3 years old so I don't have to worry about her yet, but I sure as heck hope that Bella doesn't become a role model. The Twilight fans are something else, as evidenced during the Comic-Con two weeks ago when Meyer plus the actors who will be in the movie appeared in a panel.
For more of the reactions of Buffy fans on this review, you may want to read this. Yes, there ARE Buffy fans who are also fans of Twilight, and I do believe their comments are valid. My sister (the one who introduced Twilight to me) is both a Buffy and a Twilight fan, so she may find the comments interesting. It probably concerns her more than me, since she is an actual mom with a daughter (the previously mentioned niece) to raise.
